Bayaning Kabataan, North America 2016-17

Youth Category

Loizza Aquino (Winner)
  • Winnipeg, Canada

The story of Loizza Aquino represents the millennial way of herois.  At a young age, she was able to inspire her generation to do something for the welfare of others.  She led a group of young people to organize seminars and fundraising activities for the promotion and awareness of mental health issues.

Loizza influenced people with her voice.  She moved her audience by sharing stories of empowerment and compassion.  She established “Peace of Mind 204”, a youth-led organization devoted to eradicating stigma surrounding those who suffer mental illnesses.  With her passion and efforts, she was able to gather volunteers from different sectors such as schools, communities, and the government.  The organization was able to receive a full support from the Heathy Child Manitoba Office.  Her latest event was attended by almost 700 students from different provinces in Canada.

Her experience as a founder of “Peace of Mind 204” enabled her to meet people in need and gave her the chance to transform their lives.  She was a normal teenager who handled school works, family roles, and community duties but she had the maturity to handle a leadership role.

The heroism of Loizza symbolizes the hope we envisioned for our future.  A young blood with a genuine purpose to change the world.  She proved that we can make a difference regardless of our age, gender, and race.  We only need a big heart and the desire to help.
